Your Questions About Cnn Student News

Paul asks…
Do you feel like CNN news online has cheapened??
I feel like all of their recent articles are “shock” articles, and not real news. Like murders, or alcoholic abusive parents, or students who got expelled for hugging. That isn’t relevant news!

William asks…
What does this phrase mean? “It goes into your car; you go into debt.”?
I’m a learner of English as a foreign language.
While I’m listening to CNN Student News (July 27), I couldn’t understand this.
Gasoline’s become a pretty intrusive topic: It goes into your car; you go into debt. Now everyone’s got theories on getting better gas mileage. And — sorry to say it — many of them are bunk.
Could someone tell me what “It goes into your car; you go into debt” mean?

Basically it’s saying that owning a car is a money trap. Everything associated with car ownership costs money. Lately the price of gas has skyrocketed, so as you fill your car with gas you go into debt paying for it.

Can you help me understand some words in the following paragraph?

I want to know the meaning of:
1-legit
2-black history month
3-black history week
This paragraph is from CNN news and the link for it is:

1-legit=right
2-black history month=When the tradition of Black History Month had started in the US, many in mainstream academia had barely begun to explore black history. At that point, most representation of blacks in history books was only in reference to the low social position they held as slaves and their descendants, with infrequent exceptions such is that of George Washington Carver. In the US, Black History Month is also referred to as African-American History Month. W.E.B. DuBois’ 1935 work Black Reconstruction was an early work in history that pointed to black contributions.[2]
3-black history week=The remembrance has its roots in 1926 by United States historian Carter G. Woodson as “Negro History Week”.[1] Woodson chose the second week of February because it marked the birthdays of two Americans who greatly influenced the lives and social condition of African Americans: former President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass.

Sharon asks…
